Sound familiar?
- Sharp or burning pain running from your neck into your arm
- Pins and needles or numbness in your hand or fingers
- Your arm feels weaker, or your grip isn't what it was
- Looking up or turning your head makes the arm pain worse
- It's hard to get comfortable at night
What's going on
Nerves leave your neck through small openings between the vertebrae. When the joints, discs or surrounding tissue around one of these openings become irritated or swollen, the nerve gets squeezed or sensitised. You feel it where that nerve travels: down your arm and into your hand.
Why it keeps coming back
Once the arm pain settles, the stiffness and weakness that set it up are often still there. Without addressing them, the same nerve can flare again with the next stressful stretch of desk work.
How I treat it
Your first visit includes a full assessment and your first treatment on the same day. Nerve pain needs a gentle approach, so treatment is adapted to what your nerve can tolerate. Then you choose your path:
Symptomatic approach
We treat until the arm pain settles. Then you're done.
Corrective approach
First, we get you out of pain. Then we keep going, improving your neck's movement, posture and strength so the problem stops coming back and your body becomes resilient and fit.

Which position eases it?
Gently rest the hand of your sore arm on top of your head. Does the arm pain ease? Now notice whether looking up, or turning your head towards the sore side, makes it worse. Don't push into pain. Just notice. These clues help show whether the problem is coming from your neck.
